Removal of teeth is considered the last resort in the modern dental industry and is generally only undertaken when the patient has teeth that are either diseased or in trauma. There are exceptions with children and their baby teeth.
The main exception to this is the ‘Wisdom Teeth” also commonly known as the “Third Molars”.
Wisdom Teeth problems commonly present in the late teens and above as they are the last teeth to erupt into the oral cavity. Most people have four wisdom teeth and quite often the problem at hand is the lack of space for them. Because of this, discomfort tends to prevail.
As the wisdom tooth erupts, the gum surface may become inflamed or become infected which can cause pain, swelling and jaw stiffness.
Wisdom teeth removal is a common procedure and should be assessed and removed as soon as possible to minimise discomfort and to ensure pain does not get worse.
We understand “Wisdom Teeth” and the stigma surrounding the seriousness of these teeth, but can assure you that patient care, comfort and professionalism is at the forefront of our team.
Wisdom teeth are a result of biologically developed man over 1000s of years. These teeth were allocated to replace the back teeth as they deteriorated and became worn over time due to the robust life style and eating habits of man.
As can be expected the modern age has seen man evolve, and with a more refined dietary intake and less wear and tear, these teeth are now often considered at times to be problematic, and extracted.
